Meet Crystal, your experienced Astronomy Guide. With over 19 years as a professional Naturalist, and vast experience teaching astronomy, space science, and cultural links to the constellations, she is stoked to share her passion for the night sky and astronomy with you! Crystal is a Certified Interpretive Guide, with the National Association for Interpretation, a Solar System Ambassador volunteering through NASA JPL, and co-founder of Moab Dark Skies.
Her telescope of choice is a manual 14-inch Dobsonian, perfect for viewing deep space objects like nebulae, galaxies, and faint star clusters - as well as planets and the lunar surface. Her favorite deep space objects are the Orion Nebula, Whirlpool Galaxy, and the Hercules Globular Cluster.
"My family recently signed up for a private stargazing session with Crystal. It was a beautiful, clear, crispy night in Late October. Her audience ranged from my astronomy obsessed husband and my four year old city dwelling grandson who had never seen the stars before. The rest of us were in the middle of those two extremes.
Crystal was an absolute magician. She had my grandson looking through her magnificent telescope in minutes. He literally walked away from every turn with stars in his eyes. She held his attention completely as she explained perfectly so he could understand and get excited about what he was seeing. He especially loved seeing Saturn’s rings and Jupiter’s moons and the star nursery. He clearly learned a lot as evidenced by his discussions after the fact. She challenged my husband’s interest with equal aplomb. He, too, came alive with excitement. He has been talking about what he learned ever since. He was so excited to really see what he has been reading about for years. The rest of us were astonished by the sheer beauty of what we were seeing.
It was a magical night that will live large in all our memories. Thank you Crystal for sharing what you obviously love. "
